Brandy Herr
Brandy has always had an interest in writing. However, her inspiration for Freddie Spaghetti came not from a written word, but from a doodle on a sticky note. As a young child, her granddaddy one day randomly grabbed a pad of sticky notes, drew a little doodle of a stick man with a squiggly body, and then labeled it:
To Brandy,
Freddie Spaghetti
Love, Granddaddy
She still has that sticky note to this day, though she lost her granddaddy in 1991 to cancer. She decided to create a children's book series out of the character that he dreamed up, since making children happy would be the best possible way to honor her grandfather's memory.
Brandy was born near Dallas, Texas. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a major in public relations and a minor in theatre. Now, at age 29, she lives with her husband, Matthew, and her dog, Pillow, who was her inspiration for Meat Ball.
